Timber Box Sash Windows
Introduction & Project Background
This project involved the full replacement of windows and a front door at a characterful period property in Dedham, Essex. One of the most picturesque villages in Constable Country. The client required eight timber box sash windows and a new front door, all supplied and installed by Timber Windows Essex. Situated within a conservation area, every element of the project had to respect the architectural integrity of the original property and meet local planning expectations.
Client Testimonial
"We're absolutely delighted with the results. The windows and door look exactly as they should on a house like this. Beautiful, traditional and built to last. The team at Timber Windows Essex took the time to understand what we wanted and delivered beyond our expectations. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend them."

Timber Front Door
The front door was our Frenchay style, painted in French Grey and glazed with Bevel leaded glass. A combination that strikes the perfect balance between period authenticity and quiet elegance. Finished with Samuel Heath bronze ironmongery, every detail of the door was considered. The hardware adds warmth and craftsmanship that lifts the entrance and sets the tone for the property as a whole.
The Challenge
Replacing windows and doors on a period property within a conservation area is never straightforward. The client's existing windows and front door needed to be replaced on a like-for-like basis, with any new installations required to closely match the character and style of the originals. This meant standard off-the-shelf products were never going to be suitable.
The project demanded precise attention to period detail, from the correct glazing bar profile and arrangement through to the choice of finish and ironmongery. Any deviation from the established aesthetic risked failing to satisfy conservation area requirements, making accuracy and craftsmanship absolutely non-negotiable.
Our Solution
Working closely with the homeowner, Timber Windows Essex specified and installed a complete package of bespoke timber products designed to sit seamlessly within the conservation area setting. Every product was made to measure, finished to the client's specification, and installed to the highest standard, ensuring both planning compliance and a result the client could be proud of.
Timber Box Sash Windows
We supplied and installed eight bespoke timber box sash windows, each finished in crisp white with 18mm glazing bars that replicate the traditional Georgian pane arrangement seen on properties of this period. Every window was fitted with an external architrave, picture-framing each opening and adding a layer of architectural detail that is entirely in keeping with the character of the house. The result is a set of windows that look as though they have always been there, which, in a conservation area, is exactly the point.
The Transformation
The finished result speaks for itself. Beautifully crafted sash windows and a striking front door have transformed the appearance of this Dedham period home, restoring its character while bringing it fully up to modern performance standards. The conservation area brief was met in full, but more than that, the property now has an entrance and elevations to be genuinely proud of.
At Timber Windows Essex, this is what we do. Bespoke timber windows and doors, fitted with care and precision, in properties that demand nothing less.
