Introduction & Project Background
This project involved the full replacement of windows at a beautifully preserved Edwardian property in Woodford Green, Essex. We supplied and installed five bespoke timber flush casement windows and a large 90-degree bay, bringing a fresh clarity to the front and side elevations while honouring every architectural detail of this characterful home. The property's original Edwardian features, decorative timber balustrades, ornate corbels, and a graceful arched entrance porch set a high bar for the quality and character of the new windows, and the brief was clear: replace like for like, but better.
Client Testimonial
"We were nervous about replacing the windows on a house with so much original character, but Timber Windows Essex completely put our minds at ease. The flush casements are absolutely beautiful, the finish, the detail, the quality of the timber. Everything is exactly right for the house. It's made such a difference to how the property looks and feels, inside and out."

Timber Flush Casement Windows
We supplied and installed five timber flush casement windows and a large 90-degree corner bay, all finished in Off White, a soft, warm tone that works beautifully against the property's rendered elevations and original brick detailing. Each window features 18mm glazing bars to the top lights, replicating the classic Edwardian style.
A key detail on every window is the transom drip, a subtle but important feature that protects the timber below the transom rail from water ingress, extending the life of the windows and ensuring they perform as well as they look.
The 90-degree bay is the standout feature of the front elevation, flooding the living room with light and framing views of the garden from within. Seen from the interior, the bay creates a genuinely beautiful window seat moment, generous, light-filled, and finished to a standard that feels entirely in keeping with the quality of the room around it.
The Challenge
Replacing windows on an Edwardian property of this quality is a project that demands genuine expertise. The existing windows were failing, but the house itself remained rich in period detail from the decorative balustrade running above the bay to the intricate corbel brackets and the sweeping arched porch. Any new windows had to complement these features precisely, or risk undermining the character of the whole elevation.
The 90-degree bay presented its own technical challenge. A corner bay of this configuration requires careful joinery and precise installation to ensure a seamless, weathertight result with the framing, glazing bar arrangement, and transom detailing all needing to work in perfect harmony.
The client wanted windows that were sympathetic to the Edwardian style of the property, performed to modern standards, and required minimal maintenance going forward. Getting every detail right from the glazing bar profile to the ironmongery finish was essential.
Our Solution
Working closely with the homeowner, Timber Windows Essex specified and installed a full suite of bespoke timber flush casement windows, designed from the outset to sit in perfect harmony with the Edwardian architecture of the property. Every window was made to measure, finished to the highest standard, and installed with care and precision.
Ironmongery
All windows were fitted with satin chrome ironmongery, a clean, understated finish that complements the Off White paintwork without competing with the architectural detail of the property.
The Transformation
The finished result is a masterclass in sympathetic replacement. Five flush casement windows and a striking 90-degree bay have transformed the elevations of this Edwardian home, restoring the crispness and confidence that properties of this era deserve. Inside, the difference is equally felt the bay in particular floods the front reception room with natural light, creating a warm, inviting space that showcases the quality of the joinery from every angle.
At Timber Windows Essex, we understand that on a property like this, the windows aren't just functional they're a defining part of the architecture. This project is a reminder of what bespoke timber, properly specified and expertly installed, can achieve.
